Kawah Ijen, renowned for its stunning turquoise crater lake and mesmerizing blue flames, is located in the Banyuwangi region of East Java, Indonesia. The adventure to this natural wonder begins in Lovina. Departing from Lovina at 22:00, travelers embark on a straight drive that lasts approximately 1.5 hours,  to Gilimanuk Harbor.

Upon arrival at Gilimanuk Harbor, travelers will board a ferry for a 1.5-hour journey across the Bali Strait. 

Once on the island of Java, the journey continues by car to Paltuding, the primary parking area for Kawah Ijen. This drive takes approximately another hour. Paltuding serves as the gateway to Kawah Ijen, where visitors can prepare for the trek to the crater. The gate is open at 02.00 Java time. Need to be patient on enqueue crossing the tol.

At Paltuding, travelers will find facilities such as restrooms and food stalls, allowing them to refresh before embarking on the hike. The trek to Kawah Ijen typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on individual fitness levels and the pace of the group. As they ascend, hikers are treated to stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, with the air becoming cooler and more invigorating.

Upon reaching the summit, visitors are rewarded with the breathtaking sight of the crater lake, which is famous for its striking blue color, a result of the high sulfur content in the water. The lake is surrounded by steep cliffs, and the area is known for its unique sulfur mining activities, where miners extract sulfur from the crater. For those fortunate enough to visit during the early morning hours, the sight of the blue flames, caused by ignited sulfur gas, adds an otherworldly element to the experience.
